Orlistat is a lipase inhibitor. Lipases are gut enzymes that break down fat from food, enabling the gut to transport fat into the body to be burnt for energy or stored in our fat cells for later use.

Orlistat blocks lipases, preventing some of the dietary fat from our meals from being digested. This leads to fewer calories being absorbed, which can support weight loss.

Orlistat is a prescription medication produced by two pharmaceutical companies in the UK:

However, it’s recommended that you consult with a healthcare professional or a pharmacist before purchasing weight-loss pills.

How much weight will I lose on Orlistat?

Orlistat (Xenical/Alli) has been to lead to a weight loss of 4% of body weight after three months and around 8% after one year. It’s generally well-tolerated, with fewer than 10% of people stopping the medication due to adverse effects.

However, research has shown that other weight-loss medications lead to significantly more weight loss, with orlistat often performing worse than other medications, such as liraglutide (Saxenda).

In a comparing orlistat with four other weight-loss medications, including liraglutide, orlistat was found to be the least likely to lead to more than 5% weight loss.

At the same time, a with 237 participants investigated the impact of orlistat in a real-world setting to determine adherence to the medication and whether they were well tolerated.

The results showed that participants lost around 4% of body weight after three months. 80% of participants reported being satisfied with the drug due to its positive effect on weight loss.

This suggests that despite its modest effects on weight loss, the medication’s tolerability may support some people to stay on it for longer and change their diet and lifestyle.

Should you try Orlistat?

Lipase inhibitors like Xenical and Alli can lead to weight loss of 4-8% after one year, alongside changes to diet and lifestyle.

They’re also well-tolerated, with human clinical trials indicating less than 10% of people stop taking the medication due to adverse effects.

However, all medications come with risks and rewards, and not everyone is suitable for weight-loss medications like Orlistat.

Deciding to start a new medication is a highly personal choice. So, ultimately, it depends on whether you believe it’s the best decision for your health going forward.

All weight-loss medications are designed to be taken alongside changes to your lifestyle. Without this, the effects of the drug will not last, and you’ll likely regain any weight you lose in the future.

How long have i been taking Orlistat for weight loss?

i have been on Orlistat for well over 6 years and I lose weight in a lot of different ways but I lose most of my weight by by orlistat supplements.

On average, I lose around 4% of my body weight through dieting, with orlistat sometimes leading to weight loss of between 10-20% of body weight after a few months or a full six months.

During this time, I exercise more and I gain more lean muscle mass, have more fat cells, and I eat a smaller amount of carbohydrates than before I was on Orlistat.

In terms of my main goal, I exercise more every day, mainly because I’m more likely to lose my weight when I’m on Orlistat.

Xenical is to treat people who are overweight or obese. This medicine works by targeting the absorption of dietary fat in your body rather than suppressing your appetite.

Dietary fats are large molecules that need to be broken down before they can be absorbed into the body. They are broken down by enzymes called lipases. That is, lipases play an important role in the digestion of dietary fat. When taken with a meal, Xenical interferes with the activity of these enzymes. This allows about 30% of the fat eaten in the meal to pass through the gut undigested. Therefore, your body cannot store these excess calories as fatty tissue or use them as a source of energy. This helps you to reduce your weight by burning up fat that you are already carrying, maintain your lower weight and minimise any weight regain. Losing even small amounts of weight and keeping it off produces additional health benefits for you, especially when you are at risk for other diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Xenical can also help to improve risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar. If these are not treated, they could lead to other diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Xenical should be taken in conjunction with a well-balanced calorie-controlled diet and other appropriate measures such as exercise.Active Ingredients:Xenical does not contain sucrose, gluten, tartrazine or any other azo dyes. Orlistat is used to treat obesity and help in weight loss. Orlistat is to be used along with a low-calorie diet and regular physical exercise. Obesity is a common condition associated with excessive body fat, which in turn increases the risk of other health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, and heart disease. Intake of more calories than you burn by exercise or daily activities results in obesity.

Orlistat contains Orlistat, which works in the small intestine and stomach and prevents the action of enzymes that break down fat, which is absorbed by the body. Orlistat decreases the absorption of fat from the food you eat. Thus, fat passes through the gut and is excreted in the faeces, which makes the body unable to use fat as a source of energy or convert it into fat tissue. Thereby, Orlistat helps in weight loss.

Take Orlistat as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Orlistat for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. Some people may experience soft stools, sudden bowel motions, flatulence (gas) with or without oily spotting, oily or fatty stools, stomach pain, stool incontinence (involuntary leakage of stools), and runny or liquid stools. Most of these side effects of Orlistat do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Orlistat or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid taking Orlistat if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy, as it may cause fetal harm. It is not known whether Orlistat is excreted in human milk. Therefore, please consult a doctor if you are a breastfeeding woman. Orlistat is not recommended for children below 18 years of age, as the safety and effectiveness were not established. You are advised to take a multivitamin containing fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K at bedtime as Orlistat may reduce the absorption of certain vitamins in the body.

Orlistat - Capsules

Orlistat is the active ingredient in the Orlistat Capsule. The Capsules containOrlistatcholorClofevaaen, which works by blocking the actions of enzymes called lipases. These enzymes break down fat from food, making it less available to make as

orlistat capsules. Orlistat also inhibits the action of liver enzymes called lipases, which are responsible for breaking down fat in the body. Lipases are typically found in the small intestine, stomach, liver, and many other tissues. They are usually located at the top of the gut, below the small intestine. Lipases are essential for the proper functioning of the body's enzymes. They are responsible for breaking down fat in the body. Lipases are usually absent in the small intestine, stomach, liver, and many other tissues. Lipases are located just below the smooth muscle of the large intestine. When they are not available below the smooth muscle, they produce no active enzymes. Lipases are located just above the gut, below the small intestine, and in the upper part of the small intestine. It is important to tell your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a stroke, a heart attack, a heart failure, a heart attack, a chest pain, or if you have a bowel motility disorder, gas>(stools) with gas measuring odor, gas measuring odor, or flatulence (gas) with gas measuring odor. Your doctor may increase your dose of Orlistat if you experience these side effects while taking Orlistat. If you experience any of these side effects, please contact your doctor.

Orlistat is not recommended for use by children. If you are planning for pregnancy or breast-feeding, you are advised to take a multivitamin supplement at bedtime as vitamin E deficiency may reduce the absorption of certain vitamins in the body. If you are breast-feeding, please consult a doctor.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
